"I'm ready, Mom!"

This is Kara right before we went to Chicago for the weekend to visit my family (and she stayed for the whole week). She laid her clothes out the night before and decided all the things she wanted to take. Strapped to her back is her princess bag full of things to do in the car.

The pink monkey is her favorite new friend from build a bear. Here is a picture Kara took of Sleeping Beauty.

Up!!

A few weeks ago, Luke and I took Kara to her second theater movie. (She saw the Veggie Tales Pirate movie with my sister, but this was our first opportunity to take her to a movie).

While the movie was a bit intense for her (everything is intense for her), she loved the popcorn and candy. I drank the soda and she got a juice box from my purse (shhhhhh...)

Happy Birthday, Luke!

Today is Luke's 32nd birthday. I will be at Women of Faith in St. Louis so we celebrated last night by giving Luke a boat.
Okay, it wasn't a boat. But Kara knows not to spoil surprises (but I guess she doesn't know not to lie!) so she told him it was a boat instead of the peanut butter cups that we got him. (I know...big spenders we are)
She especially liked the card she picked out (and so did I!)
The front says "Happy Birthday, Dad"
Inside is printed "From your little grill"

Fun Snack pt. 2

As promised, here is the caterpillar or as Kara calls it "worm." She had a lot of fun making and eating these snacks and even more fun telling others about it. She likes watching people react when she says she ate a "worm" or "butterfly" for a snack.

PS The caterpillars eyes look kinda of strange because Kara did not want to use whole raisins. But I let her do what she wanted and this is what came out.

Fun Snack

I found this snack in MomSense magazine put out by MOPS. Kara loved making it.
The only thing that we changed was adding the peanut butter because the raisins wouldn't stick without it.

Here are two boring videos of her making it (and whining because she didn't want me to film her) and of her eating it. What I missed was when she kept saying "Poor Butterfly" every time she ate something!

Tune in tomorrow for the caterpillar or as Kara says "worm."

Mother's Day '09

Yes, this post is a little late. Kara is in Chicagoland this week with my mom. Here's a picture of when we spent some time with Kara's Mimi (my mother-in-law) and Great-Granny (my MIL's mom).
Notice the weird facial expression of Kara. She's back in her phase of not wanting her picture taken, so we told her no cake unless she smiled for this picture....and that's the "smile" we got!

One More

Another Kara-ism from this morning. Kara likes to workout with me. Recently (just finished day 16, thank you very much) I've been doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred workout video. It is hard and I can barely talk during it. Kara loves it and uses two tomato paste cans as weights.
This is what she said this morning during the double crunch ab part:

"Mom, I'm better at this than you because I'm skinnier than you, right?"

Thanks, daughter!

Talking to Kara is insightful!

We have so much fun listening to Kara. Here are some new Kara-isms:

In the car with 1 year old friend Javen who was playing with a fake cell phone:
Me to Javen: "Who are you calling, Javen?"
Kara to Me: "Mom, he isn't calling anyone....he's just texting."

In the car on the way home from a fun visit to Nashville (after being stuck in traffic for 1 1/2 hours.)
Me: "Won't it feel good to sleep in our own beds tonight?"
Kara: "Speaking of beds, I'm kinda tired."
Where did she hear "speaking of?" Haha.

Also, on the car ride home:
Kara: "I'm so pretty with braids."

And, I've been telling Kara that in order to find all the parts to all her games and such (thanks family for always buying Kara birthday and Christmas presents with little pieces) we'll have to organize her room.
Kara to me: "Mom, I think it's time we ignorinize my room."

Promise

We could see this beautiful (double) rainbow out our back door last Tuesday night.

Breathtaking!
